Ballooning over Stockholm! (May-September)

As soon as you have arrived to the take-off point, the preparations for the flight start. You will help the balloon crew with unpacking and filling the balloon! The pilot goes through some safety instructions. You are nearly there now! When the preparations are ready, the LPG burner is lit and the balloon starts its ascent!

“Suddenly, the ground disappears under your feet and you float away in the air, with a wonderful sense of freedom! It only takes a few minutes before it has dawned on you; you are actually standing in the air and seeing the map spreading itself in reality beneath your feet.”

We are of course talking about a flight in a hot air balloon! …and there is no better city than our beautiful Stockholm to try it in.

The flight takes around one hour. After landing a sort of traditional ‘hot air balloon ceremony’ takes places with wine to celebrate first-time passenger, and their first ever landing spot. A car comes and picks up the passenger to the original gathering point.

This is a fantastic way to experience Stockholm from above, with its beautiful rooftops and most amazing architecture and landscapes. The ballooning season is between May to September, and evenings are the absolute nicest time to fly.

Stockholmbudget recommends you to always use a certified and experienced flying company with proper insurance!

Tequila Restaurant El Diablo in Stockholm

El Diablo logoAre you tired of always having wine with your food? Stockholmbudget would then recommend you to visit the neighborhood restaurant El Diablo.

tequilaThis restaurant is the Nordic region’s stronghold when it comes to tequila! This is Stockholm’s only restaurant where every meal comes with a recommendation for what tequila to have with it. The selection of 33 (!) tequilas are of high quality and made of 100% agave. Naturally with all that tequila, the El Diablo also have one of the largest selections of margaritas.

El Diablo is still not a bar! It is a great restaurant with fine dining, and should be considered as such. The kitchen serves “Southwest Cooking” – dished cooked in Californian and Latin American style. Stockholmbudget liked the food, and the menus are changed every 6 weeks, so there is definitely room for reoccuring visits…

NK – Nordiska Kompaniet Stockholm Shopping

NK logoSweden is internationally known for its unique designs in clothes. And in the heart of Stockholm lies NK – Nordiska Kompaniet (‘the Nordic Company‘).

NK front

Notice the neon sign on top of the tower.

NK (as every real Stockholmian calls it) was founded in 1902 and was inspired by the vibrant great stores of Paris and London. It has six floors filled with famous Swedish, and International, brands of many kinds. On top of the building rises a magnificent decoration.

A circular neon sign, with a diameter of 7 meters, built on a tower on top of the roof – 87 meters above street level. One side of the sign features the NK logo in green, the other side a clock in red.

NK inside

Walking around in this exclusive, and ferociously well designed mall, is inspiring as well as dream-like. One could easily spend hours inside the mall because there is something for everyone in there. From cosmetics and jewellery to clothes. Well equipped English and Swedish book shops on the top floor and the food and kitchen section in the basement – Yes, almost everything is there!

However, tourists just looking to pick up souvenirs, should try their luck in Stockholm’s old town to pick up unique Stockholm souvenirs. The old town has a nice variation of highly overpriced souvenir shops as well as smaller more reasonably overpriced boutiques where you can find authentic Swedish merchandise. We have also previously mentioned IKEA as another type of shopping for Swedish things.
